Second Life in Education Diary

Today I entered a world I had never been to before. A world my son (8) has much more intuitive knowledge about than I do. A world that education is using to engage students in their own learning. This is a very exciting world and once I logged in I was hooked. I am speaking about Second Life.
The Education Page can be found at http://secondlife.com/businesseducation/education.php
Second Life is a virtual world that allows the user to create an avatar and travel (by flying if you want) to various simulated environments. In education, institutions are buying "islands" where they can make the environments exclusive to their faculty and students. Reading the education page will give you more infomation about Second Life donating an acre of land to educators interested in trying a class in either Fall or Spring semester.
Second Life takes online learning to a new level. Interacting with your instructor on Skype is one thing, but interacting online with your avatar instructor, would be quite different.
This is only the first day of my journey in Second Life. I will post more as I become more knowledgeable. In the meantime I highly recommend you sign up for a free account.
